The Region 2 Office is pleased to announce that Mr. Hoang Nguyen, current assistant principal of Kilmer Center School, has been named the new principal of Kilmer Center School.  His official start date will be July 1, 2020.

Mr. Nguyen grew up in Pennsylvania before coming to the DC metro area where he started his education career working as a multiple disabilities teacher at St. Coletta School in Washington DC.  In 2008 he came to Fairfax County Public Schools as a Special Education Teacher at Armstrong Elementary.  After one year in that position, Mr. Nguyen moved to Marshall Road Elementary to serve as a Crisis Resource Teacher where he remained for seven years.  In 2016 he was named Assistant Principal of Kilmer Center where he has dedicated his time and energy getting to know each student by name and need and becoming embedded in the culture of the school.

Mr. Nguyen is a leader who is passionate about the welfare, well-being, and academic growth of all students.  He is also passionate about ensuring that a school’s climate is inclusive and culturally responsive to students, families, and staff.  He believes in sustaining family engagement through transparent communication as a way to build trusting relationships and making sure that every family has equitable access to resources. He understands the importance of being visible and accessible to all students, staff, family members, and care-givers.  As a Level 2 Professional Crisis Management (PCM) behavior analysis practitioner, he is able to respond and supervise every student Crisis Response Team call to ensure multiple strategies are being implemented, fidelity to Behavior Intervention Plans are being followed and students and staff are safe throughout any crisis.

Mr. Nguyen believes in shared leadership as a way to move collaborative learning teams forward and as a way to implement high-leverage practices.  His leadership style supports staff with professional development and also supports a growth-mindset to build collective efficacy to maximize student outcomes.  He has worked intentionally to sustain a caring and responsive culture that values diversity and paves the way to excellence, equity, and effectiveness.

Mr. Nguyen holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Development from Indiana University of Pennsylvania as well as a Master of Arts degree in Teaching Children with Emotional/Behavioral Disabilities from The George Washington University.  Mr. Nguyen received his administrative endorsement in School Administration and Supervision PreK-12 from George Mason University.

Please join me in welcoming Mr. Nguyen as the new principal of Kilmer Center School.
